The dessert course consisted of several selection and were outstanding. ![]() THe vegetables probably came from the garden across the street. The lemon ice cream dish was the best taste I have ever tasted. The caviar, and Waygu were beyond description. Since the menu changes I will not mention individual dishes but the was no good, better, best. The evolution through the meal was logical, and entertaining. Individual serving size was small-consistent with the understanding that the palate attenuated after a few bites. Manny was essentially assigned to our table. We had not selected the wine pairing so we selected a couple bottles. Our 6 person group was seated in a wonderful table with IRONED table cloth. It took 14 years to get a reservation (Thanks American Express) and went 12/30. If you can rate this less than 5 you are a fortunate person. But, for a once in a lifetime dining experience and great memories, it's well worth it. People ask- is it a good value? Huh? Of course not- not in the traditional sense of value for the money- no meal should cost ANYWHERE NEAR what that cost- it was ridiculous and embarrassing, quite frankly. All in all, it was a fantastic and memorable experience. As you put on your coat to go they handed us folders with the menu printed, and the wine pairing typed up, plus two tins with shortbread. The kitchen was not the frantic yelling and screaming you might expect- you could practically hear a pin drop in there. Thomas Keller was not there (but we did spot him the next morning in the garden prepping for the next day's lunch). At the end of the evening they invited us to go into the kitchen which was a really nice experience. So, major tip is to ask the sommelier how much she or he will be brining as part of the pairing. It actually inhibited our enjoyment of the evening a little bit. It ended up being way too much volume vs. But, the wine pairing included half bottles of wine. The pairing was great, but there was just way too much of it. We did choose to get a wine pairing, and from that we have a tip that we give everyone- please be clear to the sommelier about the VOLUME that you'd like to drink. I had no clue how someone so young could have risen in her field to this level. Honestly, she didn't look to be much more than 21 years old herself. The sommelier also was very down to earth. There was, though, a main waiter for continuity, which was nice. I have no clue how many people must be working here at any given time. There is a server for every course- a different person comes with each course. One of the servers talked about a mexican place in San Francisco we should try (Californio), and he later came back with a card with the name of the restaurant and address written down for us. At The French Laundry, everyone was extremely friendly and conversational. The very best places I've gone have tended to have super friendly service. I have found that the more formal and stuffy the staff is the more it's a wannabe fine restaurant. The service is much more friendly and down to earth than I would have expected. I'll list out a few things that surprised me (mostly for the good), and some tips. All the other reviews can go into great detail about the courses. Dining at the French Laundry was a long time bucket list item for us.
